How to stream sport this summer – without interruptions

Josh G | Social Media & Content Lead

From Wimbledon to the Tour de France and beyond, there’s no shortage of sport this summer. And if you’re planning to watch online, best make sure your broadband’s up to the task.

After all, not all broadband connections are created equal. And with the stakes as high as missing the goal, shot or try of the summer – your broadband dropping out mid-match would be game over.

Big games, big audiences… big drama?

We all know how it goes. An epic match draws in an epic crowd. In 2024, A summer of sport that included Euro 2024, and the Olympics resulted in over 350 million requests on BBC iPlayer. That’s a lot of people shouting at their screens. And a lot of data flowing into a lot of homes.

This is where full fibre broadband really comes into its own. Because every full fibre connection serves one home and one home only, it doesn’t matter that everyone else in the country is streaming the same thing at the same time. You’ve got your own personal connection, bringing every unmissable moment directly to you.

Where to stream all the sport this summer

Make sure you don’t miss a moment

Whatever you’re streaming, you want to make sure your broadband can keep up. Here’s how to do it:

🌟 Go full fibre

Yeah, we’ve covered this one already. But if you aim for speeds of 150 Mbps or more, you’ll be in the gold medal position.

🔌 Plug in with Ethernet

Boring, we know. But it really, really works.

❌ Put your unwanted devices in the sin bin

Getting rid of old devices means your network can focus on sending connection to where it’s needed most (that’s the pitch, court or arena of your choice)...

⏸️ Pause the downloads

Because no one needs a 40GB update mid-final.

🧪 Run a speed test

Get ahead of the game (literally) and check your broadband isn’t sluggish in the place you want to stream. See more here .

Game, set, match – full fibre

Sport won’t wait for buffering. Get full fibre that lets you stream every second like you're in the stadium.

What speeds do I need for streaming?

The great thing about streaming is you can watch films or listen to music or podcasts all day long without having to download and store big files. The only thing you need (apart from an understanding partner) is plenty of broadband speed.

Ultrafast. Superfast. Faster-than-the-speed-of-light-on-a-bike fast. Lots of broadband providers make big promises when it comes to connection speed. But what is ‘a good speed’? And when it comes down to it, how fast is your internet really?

How fast can you go?
