How your eero security can save your holiday plans

Josh G | Social Media & Content Lead

If you’re one of the many Brits who’ll be staycationing this summer, we recommend packing something a little extra – your broadband security.

A whopping 63% of us spent our summer hols in the UK in 2023. And while the great British holiday is known for its stoney seasides, penny arcades and fish and chips – it’s not usually known for its holiday-friendly weather. Meaning the odd day spent inside your Airbnb while it’s chucking it down is, fair to say, more than likely.

So when you're all Uno'd out and scrabble has scrambled everyone's brain, it'll be time to turn to the iPad (no judgement). Which is when your eero will really come into its own.

eero – a quick reminder

Amazon's eero Pro 6E router is a super smart bit of kit, built for faster speeds, brilliant reliability and rock-solid security. It’s portable, so you can pack it in with your waterproofs – aaand you can plug it into the back of most routers! It also has features like great privacy and super-secure settings, keeping you totally protected while you’re away.

How secure is your holiday home’s Wi-Fi?

If you’re staying in an Airbnb or a holiday home, you’ll probably have access to the router or modem. But the truth is, you don’t know how secure the local Wi-Fi is. And no one wants a scam or virus ruining a lovely time away.

When you plug in your eero, it automatically blocks unsafe sites to prevent malware, spyware or phishing threats. Plus, whatever you’ve got set up at home will automatically be the same there, too. So you can use parental controls to set limits on devices, and block sites, apps and more.

What about in a hotel?

It’s unlikely you’ll be able to use your eero in a hotel as the router might be out of reach. Instead, try using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which essentially creates a secure connection between your device and the internet, encrypting your data to keep your activity private.

Here are more great reasons to use a VPN.

Or just unplug and unwind

Yep, that’s right. We’re a broadband company telling people to disconnect. Holidays are often about getting away from it all, enjoying new scenery and simply being outside. Enjoy that glorious British weather, whatever it may be. If a social media update just can’t wait though – you can post it safely with your eero or VPN.

Smart home broadband

By the end of the year, 7.2 million UK homes are predicted to own at least one smart home device. But even if your fridge isn’t sending you regular milk-based status reports yet, your home’s probably way smarter than you think. And it needs broadband to match.
